CEP 807- Capstone Project

Fall 2013

Instructor: Mr Matthew Koehler

This course was the culmination of my work for the Master of Arts degree in educational leadership at Michigan State University.  The work was meaningful, reflective, and rewarding as I created my first website.  I enjoyed the design process, but also found it beneficial to link the summaries from each course to create a holistic picture of what I learned.  This course also provided true collaborative learning and allowed me to create my own design through evaluation of others. This was one of the most enjoyable and relevant courses I taken in the program.

EAD 882- Technology in the Digital Age

Fall 2012

This course discussed the positives and neagatives associated with technology and learning.  It's clear that technology provides us easier information than ever before, but is this information being translated in way that is effective for todays learners.  We also investiagted new literacies, teaching methods, and digital transformation. This class was very effective in reflecting on my current pedagogy in teaching as well as hypothesizing what technology and learning will look like in the future.

ED 800- Educational Inquiry

Summer 2011

Instructor: Dr. Steven Weiland

This course was organized around four domains of educational inquiry, interpretation, and criticism: classroom-based or teacher research, theories of intelligence and the curriculum, history and biography, and ethnographic participant observation and reflection. Attention to the four domains of inquiry is framed by opening and closing course units devoted to, respectively, the philosophy of education and the impact of new information and communications technologies.  I enjoyed examining the historical context of education in relation to teaching methodolgies of today.  I also found it relevant to learn the nuances of online educational resources and how to appy them to teaching.

KIN 855- Psychosocial Bases of Coaching

Fall 2010

Instructor: Ms Marty Ewing

This course was by far the most intense course in the program.  The course included a 30 page paper, three timed online exams, and several other 10+ page papers.  The format was lecture based and was designed for coaches and athletiic administrators.  It put major emphasis on Title IX and gender differences while also investigating growth, development of coaching, early specialization, and how to effectively navigate on and off field issues as a coach.  It also proved teaching is at the core of coaching, and effective demonstrations must be a priority.  Overall, this was a much more challenging course than I would have anticipated.
